APLN Senior Research Adviser Manpreet Sethi was interviewed by Seikyo Shimbun. She emphasized the need to strengthen existing norms, such as refraining from conducting further nuclear tests or using nuclear weapons, while also advocating for the establishment of new norms. Additionally, she pointed out the importance of fostering a positive atmosphere within the treaty and highlighted the role of the Preparatory Committee in laying the groundwork. The challenges of balancing non-proliferation and disarmament within the NPT, along with the necessity of implementing concrete measures to reduce nuclear risks and promote strategic restraint among countries, were also discussed.
