Members

The Asia-Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (APLN) has ninety-three members from sixteen countries across Asia and the Pacific, consisting of former political, diplomatic and military leaders, senior government officials, and scholars and opinion leaders. The APLN aims to inform and energize public opinion, especially high-level policymakers, to take seriously the very real threats posed by nuclear weapons, and to do everything possible to achieve a world in which they are contained, diminished and eventually eliminated.

Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province

Hee-ryong Won has served as Chairman of the Low Carbon Green Growth National Forum as well as the Chairman for the Committee for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Unification in the National Assembly.

Won Hee-ryong is the Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. After attending Seoul National University’s School of Law, he served as the public prosecutor is Seoul, Suwon, Yeoju, and Busan. In 2003, he obtained his Master’s degree in New Media from the Graduate School of Journalism and Mass Communication from Hanyang University. During this time, he was elected to the National Assembly of South Korea, where he served from 2000- 2012. In 2004 he was a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum in Davos, and in 2007 he was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Political Science from Jeju National University. In 2008 he served as the Chairman of the Low Carbon Green Growth National Forum, and in 2009 he acted as Chairman of the Special Renovation Committee for the NGP. In 2010 he served as the Secretary General for the GNP as well as the Chairman for the Committee for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Unification in the National Assembly. In 2011 he ascended to the Supreme Council of the GNP, and in 2014 was elected Governor of Jeju Province. Won also currently serves as the president of UCLG ASPAC.
