The Asia-Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (APLN) has over one hundred members from eighteen countries across Asia and the Pacific, consisting of former political, diplomatic and military leaders, senior government officials, and scholars and opinion leaders. APLN aims to inform and energize public opinion, especially high-level policymakers, to take seriously the very real threats posed by nuclear weapons, and to do everything possible to achieve a world in which they are contained, diminished and eventually eliminated.

Dr. Waheguru Pal Singh (W.P.S.) Sidhu is clinical professor at the Center for Global Affairs, School of Professional Studies, New York University, & directs the UN Specialization. Concurrently, he is an associate fellow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy and a guest faculty at the NATO Defense College. Dr. Sidhu has more than 30 years of experience in traditional and non-traditional security issues, specifically weapons of mass destruction – particularly nuclear weapons – and the role of emerging powers, especially India, in the evolving global order.
His previous academic and professional positions include vice president of programs at the EastWest Institute, director of the New Issues in Security Course at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, and Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.
Dr. Sidhu has also served as a consultant to the UN and its affiliate agencies, and to other intergovernmental agencies. In addition to his pedagogic experience, he regularly organizes and conducts track-two projects with institutions in the US, Europe, China, India, and Pakistan to facilitate a dialogue among young scholars on international peace and security issues.
He is the author of multiple books, chapters, and articles dealing with world order, defense and security issues. His latest publication is Shaping the Emerging World: India and the Multilateral Order. He has also published in leading journals, including Arms Control Today, Asian Survey, Disarmament Diplomacy, Disarmament Forum, International Peacekeeping, Jane’s Intelligence Review, Politique Etrangere, and the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists.
He is a member of the Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe, and a member of the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses. He was the consultant to the first, second and third United Nations Panel of Governmental Experts on Missiles in 2001-2002, 2004 and 2007-2008 respectively. He was also appointed as a member of the Resource Group setup to assist the United Nations High-Level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change in 2004.
Dr. Sidhu earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. He holds a Masters in International Relations from the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and a Bachelor’s degree in History from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, India.
