Members

The Asia-Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (APLN) has ninety-three members from sixteen countries across Asia and the Pacific, consisting of former political, diplomatic and military leaders, senior government officials, and scholars and opinion leaders. The APLN aims to inform and energize public opinion, especially high-level policymakers, to take seriously the very real threats posed by nuclear weapons, and to do everything possible to achieve a world in which they are contained, diminished and eventually eliminated.

Dongxiao CHEN

President of Shanghai Institute of International Studies

Dongxiao Chen currently serves as the President of the Shanghai Institute of International Studies and specializes in China foreign policy, Sino-U.S. relations, and UN collective security. In the past he has served as the Director of the Department of International Organizations and International Law.

Dongxiao served as the Vice President of SIIS, and was in charge of academic research and international exchanges before being appointed as the President of SIIS in July of 2013. Before that, he also held the positions of deputy director of Department of Academic Research and International Exchanges, Director of the Department of International Organizations and International Law, and Director of the Department of American Studies. Chen Dongxiao got his Ph.D from Fudan University and had been teaching at the Department of International Politics of Fudan University until 1993. Dr. CHEN specializes in the studies of China foreign policy, Sino-U.S. relations and UN collective security. He has led and supervised numerous task forces on research projects entrusted by China National Foundation of Social Sciences Studies, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council and so on. Dr. CHEN is awarded as “Leading Scholar of Shanghai” in 2012. His latest publications include Global Security Governance and the Reform of UN Security Regime (Beijing: Current Affairs Press, 2012), Grand Strategic Landscape: Asia in 2020 (editor, Shanghai: East China Normal University Press, 2010), China’s UN Diplomacy (co-author, Beijing: World Affairs Press, 2009), China’s Role in International System (co-author, Beijing: Encyclopedia Publishing House, 2008), “Complexity and Transformational Structure of China-U.S. Relations” (in China-U.S. Relation Transformed, eds. by Suisheng Zhao, NY: Routledge, 2008), UN: New Agenda and New Challenges (Beijing: Current Affairs Press, 2005). Dr. CHEN is the chief editor of Global Review published by SIIS. He also holds the positions as Chair of Shanghai Association of Future Asia, Vice-Chair of Shanghai Association of American Studies. Dr. CHEN is adjunct professor of Shanghai International Studies University. He also holds the non-resident senior fellow of Center for American Studies, CIIS, senior advisor of International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Major of Shanghai (IBLAC), senior advisor of Shanghai Foreign Affairs office and Shanghai Taiwan Affairs office of Shanghai Municipal Government respectively.
