Shukuko KOYAMA

Associate Professor at the School of Social Sciences, Waseda University

Shukuko is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Sciences, Waseda University, where she teaches conflict resolution, development studies and social innovation. She was responsible for an international leadership development programme jointly implemented by Korea University, Peking University and Waseda University from 2017 to 2021. In addition to her academic career, she has extensive operational and policy development experience in the fields of disarmament, peacekeeping, emergency response and reconstruction assistance, having worked in Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Between 2002 and 2015, Shukuko worked for the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO). She was a fellow of the Global Future Council on Japan, World Economic Forum, in 2019 and 2020. Shukuko holds a PhD from the School of Social Sciences of the University of Bradford, UK.
