[Plenary Session] Peace Agenda 2045 - Abolish War and Nuclear Weapons
On Monday, 8 February 2021, APLN Chair and former Foreign Minister Gareth Evans spoke in a plenary session of the PyeongChang Peace Forum 2021 hosted by the Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament. Building off the Peace Initiative launched at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, the PyeongChang Peace Forum is an annual event to advance peace, disarmament, economic cooperation, sports diplomacy, and sustainable development.
Chair Evans participated in the plenary session: Peace Agenda 2045 – Abolish War and Nuclear Weapons. Experts discussed concrete approaches and effective campaigns to abolish war and eliminate nuclear weapons with the aim of achieving these goals no later than 2045, the 100th Anniversary of the United Nations. The plenary session of 2021’s theme to commemorate the UN 75th Anniversary and Ending of the 70-Year Old Korean War is now available to watch.
The Forum was jointly hosted by PyeongChang 2018 Legacy Foundation, PyeongChang City, Gangwon Province, Korea International Cooperation Agency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Unification, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
