The Asia-Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (APLN) has over one hundred members from eighteen countries across Asia and the Pacific, consisting of former political, diplomatic and military leaders, senior government officials, and scholars and opinion leaders. APLN aims to inform and energize public opinion, especially high-level policymakers, to take seriously the very real threats posed by nuclear weapons, and to do everything possible to achieve a world in which they are contained, diminished and eventually eliminated.
LEE Hong-koo
Former Prime Minister of ROK, Founding Chairman of the East Asia Institute in Seoul
Lee Hong-koo is the Chairman of the Seoul Forum for International Affairs and the East Asia Institute. He has served as the Deputy Prime Minister for Reunification and Ambassador to the UK.
Lee Hong-koo is Chairman of the Seoul Forum for International Affairs and the East Asia Institute, as well as an advisor to the JoongAng Ilbo. Dr. Lee was the Korean ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1991 to 1993 and to the United States from 1998 to 2000. He also previously served as the prime minister of South Korea from 1994 to 1995. Before that, he served twice as the deputy prime minister for unification dealing with inter-Korean relations. He was also formerly a member of the Korean National Assembly and the chairman of the then-ruling New Korea Party. Dr. Lee taught political science at Seoul National University for twenty years and was educated at Seoul National University, Emory, and Yale University.
