Book Talk: A Conversation with Joel S. Wit

The Asia-Pacific Leadership Network (APLN), the Institute of North Korean Studies at Yonsei University, and the Korea Peace Forum co-hosted a special online book talk and discussion with Joel Wit, marking the publication of his new book, Fallout: The Inside Story of America’s Failure to Disarm North Korea (Yale University Press).

Drawing on more than 30 years of experience as a U.S. State Department official and think-tank expert—including extensive direct engagement with North Korean officials—and over 300 interviews with U.S., South Korean, and Chinese policymakers, rewrites the history of nuclear diplomacy with Pyongyang. Fallout tells the story of how six American presidents failed to prevent North Korea from building an arsenal of nuclear-armed missiles capable of reaching American cities, with particular focus on the Obama and Trump administrations.

Michelle Ye Hee Lee of The Washington Post moderated the conversation.

Date and Time: Thursday, 26 February 2026, 11:00 AM KST (click here to find the corresponding time in your time zone).
