  • Dr. Vo Van Thuan is a senior expert (Emeritus) of Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM). He was also a senior expert of the Permanent Office of the State Steering Committee for Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Projects (i.e. State NEPIO) for phase 2 from 2011 to 2015. Since 2002, he has been a member of the Vietnam NEPIO for phase 1 under the Prime-Minister of Vietnam for a pre-feasibility study of the first NPP project in Vietnam and for formulating a National Strategy for peaceful Development of Atomic Energy. The Strategy was approved in 2006 by the Prime-Minister and the PFS was accepted by the National Assembly of Vietnam in November 2009. From 2003 to 2008, he was President of the Vietnam Nuclear Society of VPS. He has also been a member of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Physics Society (VPS) from 2002. From 1998 to 2006, he has held the position of director of the Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology (INST) in Hanoi, an institute that has pioneered R&D on nuclear power planning in Vietnam.

His academic teaching career includes a post at the Graduate school on Physics, Hanoi National Pedagogical University from 2016. He also lectured on atomic and nuclear physics at the Hanoi National Pedagogical University from 2005 to 2006, during which he supervised and co-advised for two Ph.D. theses and master theses. He lectured on advanced course of neutron and reactor physics for Ph.D. students of the Graduate School of VINATOM. His first teaching job was at the Physics Faculty of the Hanoi National University where he taught neutron physics for under graduate students from 1987 to 1988.

His main research topics include neutron physics, nuclear and reactor physics, radiation technology and nuclear safety. He is also interested in planning for nuclear power and high energy physics such as neutrino physics, astroparticle physics and cosmology.

Dr. Thuan is a co-author and author of more than 60 publications in national and international journals and reports in national and international conferences. In 1982, he was awarded for his publication on the discovery of enhancement of the weak interaction in neutron resonances, an awardee by JINR, Dubna. He has also participated in conferences such as the Nuclear Energy Asia (NEA), Hongkong on December 2010; the Asia Nuclear Power Briefing (ANPB2012), Hanoi in 2012; Europe Nuclear Power Briefing (ANPB2014), Warsaw in 2014.

Dr. Thuan received his doctorate on Experimental Nuclear Physics at the International Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Moscow Region, USSR while he was working at the I.M. Frank Neutron Physics Laboratory from 1979 to 1984. He graduated university on 1975 in the major of nuclear experimental physics, USSR. Dr. Vo Van Thuan speaks Vietnamese, Russian and English.
